                                      A Letter from the President
Welcome 2020 of the Wisconsin Neurodiagnostic Society - A Chapter of ASET - The Neurodiagnostic Society. I'd like to update you with the activities of your Board of Directors. We are a Society with newly approved Bylaws, Constitution, and structure. We've kept busy. As a group, we started checking in with monthly online meetings.
In January, as a follow up from a November meeting, I had met with the ASET Council of Chapter Presidents for a quarterly online meeting. Since recently hosting a successful non-hotel meeting, I shared the organizational timeline for details ranging from contacting speakers to inviting vendors and shared in the drop box for all the chapters to view.
In February, our Treasurer, Nicole Dorn, who had volunteered to host the 2020 meeting in Eau Claire, reported that her team had contacted and confirmed speakers in not one or two but several topic tracks! She planned to pull in the full talent of the Mayo Clinic for lectures.
In March, our Secretary, Christin Geer and I watched webinars and spoke to online membership management groups and came up with a short list seeking input from the board. Our President Elect, Kathi Sawyer, followed up and helped narrow the choices with recommendations, and we agreed on Club Express. Then in March, COVID hit, and everything came to a screeching halt as priorities changed. Some of you continued working in your field or were pulled out to help in organizational and staffing management, some were furloughed, and some kept working but at a reduced load as employers were navigating new paradigms and staff were adjusting to a new workflow.
In April, Nicole reported that Mayo had cancelled all onsite meetings for the year. In these uncertain times, we decided we would need to cancel an in person Fall meeting. Nicole worked diligently to update our society financially, completing State and Federal tax-exempt filings and updating cheques with our new society name.
Kathi went ahead with building our new website on the Club Express Membership Management Platform. Kathi took the lead in the big undertaking of learning the new software, setting up security and creating functionality for online membership renewal payments. She transferred not only the current list of members but all the past members we could find, which were 200+ names. She asked the board to test drive the new site in July and we will try to ensure that it will be a seamless experience for members to set up their own accounts once they get an email invite. This will enable members to have communication not only with the Board but with each other. Details will follow.
As a Chapter, we get 3 FREE ASET webinars annually. We plan to set up these webinars for September, October, and November, mid-month, on Tuesday 6pm to 7pm and Thursday noon to 1pm. Natus has graciously consented to allow us to use their GoToWebinar subscription to set up the webinars which allows us to track those in attendance in order to submit names to ASET to earn CEUs. Everyone on our mailing list will get an invite to this first webinar in September, and all members who have paid 2020 dues will be eligible for CEUs after watching the live presentation of the pre-recorded ASET webinar.
We are also planning a virtual 1 hour business meeting in September. This meeting will be on a Friday from noon to 1pm and is open to all members. At last year's meeting, we discussed increasing our membership fee which is currently only $15. Although we sent out a survey, we found out later that not everyone received a chance to vote. Therefore, at the 2020 business meeting, we will call for a vote for a modest increase to $25 for Active Members and $15 for Student Members. Going forward, the membership year runs January to December, with no plans to pro-rate the fee since it is so minimal. The year that you pay is the year that you are covered. For example, if you want to take advantage of the webinar CEUs this fall, you will need to pay the membership fee for 2020 if you have not already done so. You will also get reminders at the beginning of the year, 2021, to renew your membership fee. We also plan at the business meeting to extend time to give an overview of the new website functionality which will be accessible to all but have a Members Only section.
What do you get as a member? We want to optimize use of the new robust website. We now have reminders for online membership renewal, ability to provide online meeting registration and payment, ability to create online discussion forums or tech tips pages, and much more. Please give us your ideas and interests so we can optimize the society's educational benefits.
Lastly, we are recruiting for two open officer positions: Secretary and President Elect. Our secretary, Christin Geer, recently resigned with the promotion of her husband to a position in North Carolina. Thank you for your contributions, Christin. This is my last year as President and at our business meeting in September, Kathi Sawyer will take over as President and I will retire to a non-voting, advisory role. This leaves an open President Elect position. The position descriptions are listed on our website under the Officers tab. You or a colleague may nominate you. Thank you in advance for your volunteer service.
